The Government Science Secondary School, Kurfi in Katsina State, has been closed down following the outbreak of an unknown epidemic. The students were sent home after the unknown epidemic claimed the lives of eight pupils of the school. The outbreak of the epidemic has forced the school authority to close down the school and send students home.
Kabir Lawal, the lawmaker representing the Kurfi constituency, disclosed this to the House of Representative under matters of urgent public importance. The epidemic has forced authorities of the school to shut down the school and send pupils back home,” he added.
Garba Useini, and Bishir Mamnan representing the Kafur Constituency and Dutsin-ma Constituency respectively, claimed that the epidemic affected their constituencies as well. They added that they could not give the number of casualties.
The House faulted the state Science and Technical Education Board for closing down the college and sending the pupils home. The members concluded that the act was capable of spreading the disease.
The Speaker, Abubakar Kusada, directed the House committees on education and health to conduct a thorough investigation of the incident and report back to the House.
