Saleh Abdullah, a teacher of Government Girl Secondary School, Ngelzarma, Yobe State, has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for raping his 14 years old student.
Abubakar Lamba Maluri, the chief magistrate court in Damaturu, who passed the verdict described the convict as unreasonable.He added that the court must rise up to give the needed defense to voiceless female students.
He stated that teachers are meant to be loco parentis (parent-like) for the female students in their care not as personal property.He added that the punishment imposed on the convict should serve as deterrent to others.
He also noted that the sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment was without an option of fine.
The Judge also awarded a compensation of N100,000 against the convict in favour of the victim and he said if the convict default the order he would have an additional 5 year imprisonment.
He added that the victim should be reinstated into the school within 14 days to continue with her studies.
