The Vice-Chancellor of the Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State, Prof. Debo Adeyewa, has said that the institution is capable of eliminating Lassa fever through its research activities.
The vice-chancellor said this during the 13th Matriculation of the institution which held recently.
Adeyewa also frowned on what he described as failure on the part of the Federal Government to support the university’s World Bank-sponsored African Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases, especially at a time the Lassa fever scourge is spreading across the country.
He said, “We are the only university that has been addressing the issue scientifically. We have done research on Lassa fever. We are behind the scene providing solutions to Lassa fever.”
However, the vice-chancellor called for more collaboration from Nigerians, saying the university had been using its financial resources to solve public problems.
“Our Centre of Excellence is currently supporting the containment of the nationwide Lassa fever scourge being managed at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Edo State.”
