FCET Umunze appoints acting provost

The Governing Council of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Umunze, Anambra State has named a new Acting Provost for the college. She is Dr. Cecilia Nonye Ibekwe, the former Dean of School of Education of the college, who took over the leadership of the college, in acting capacity, from Prof. Josephat Okechukwu Ogbuagu, whose tenure expired on January 16.

She is Dr. Cecilia Nonye Ibekwe, the former Dean of School of Education of the college, who took over the leadership of the college, in acting capacity, from Prof. Josephat Okechukwu Ogbuagu, whose tenure expired on January 16.

Ibekwe, who became a Chief Lecturer in 2008, and whose appointment was ratified by the sixth Governing Council of the college, chaired by Mr. Ibrahim Abdu Radda, joined the college on March 15, 1991 as Lecturer III and rose through the ranks to become a Chief Lecturer in 2008.

According to the council, Ibekwe was appointed by the Council to provide the strong leadership needed in the college, pending the appointment of a substantive provost for the institution.

Prior to her appointment, Dr. Ibekwe had during her 26 years of service in the college served as the Head of Department of Educational Foundation; Dean, School of Sandwich and TTC; Coordinator Teaching Practice and Dean, School of Education and General Studies.

She is a graduate of the Bendel State University, Abraka campus, where she obtained B.A (ED) in Religious Studies between 1983 and 1987; and her M.ED in Philosophy of Education from the University of Ibadan (UI), as well as her PhD in Philosophy of Education at the University of Port-Harcourt in 2014.

The Acting Provost, who also served in various college Committees and Ad-Hoc Committees, is a member of several professional associations, including Philosophy of Education Association of Nigeria (PEAN), the National Association of Curriculum Theorists (NACT), and Technology Education Writers Association of Nigeria (TEWAN), among others.
