The Human Development Initiative, a non-profit organisation advocating quality education for all children in Nigeria, especially at the elementary stage, has said that the development of any child and even society depends largely on access to quality learning during the formative years.
Speaking in Lagos during a meeting with stakeholders in the sector at the grassroots level, Executive Director of HDI, Mrs. Olufunso Owasanoye, said that without proper investment in primary education, there might not be a future for many children in the country.
Calling on stakeholders in the education sector, especially at the local government level, for support, Owasanoye said there was a need to monitor and track the implementation of Universal Basic Education projects in all parts of the country.
She said, “We want an education system where our children will feel comfortable to be in school, not on the streets committing crime and causing instability in the country.
“Parents must not leave the education and development of their children in the hands of teachers alone but also ensure that they monitor and track the activities of their children at every point in time to be sure that they are in school.
