The Alumni Association of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, has warned the Osun State House of Assembly against interfering in the affairs of the institution’s Governing Council led by a former Head of Service of the Federation, Prof. Afolabi Oladapo.
The Chairman, Osun State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Mr. Kamil Oyedele, had said that the appointment of an external auditor by the LAUTECH governing council was capable of straining the relationship between the joint owners of the institution, Oyo and Osun States.
The lawmakers had earlier, during the defence of the university’s budget, said that the council must adhere strictly to the understanding between the two states to appoint external auditors on rotational basis.
But the Chairman of the alumni association, Mr. Solomon Onilede, in a statement issued on Monday by the Public Relations Officer of the association, Mr. Damilare Adeyemi, defended the action taken by the governing council.
The alumni association counselled the lawmakers that they had no role to play in the appointment of an external auditor at the university, saying it was the duty of the council constituted by Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State and his Oyo State counterpart, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, who were the joint Visitors to the university.
The old students of the university warned the Osun State lawmakers against playing politics with the university which they said needed the support of all stakeholders for it to be returned to its glory days.
The statement read in part, “Osun state House of Assembly has no locus standi to either appoint or effect sack in the university. The power to appoint lies solely in the hands of the governing council appointed by the governors of the two owner states.”
