Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State has described the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, as world class.
Speaking during an interface with the management and students of ABUAD on Monday, the governor noted that the hospital was comparable to any modern hospital in Europe or America, in terms of the quality of its facilities.
Aregbesola urged Nigerians, irrespective of tribe, religion and social status, to take advantage of the facilities available at the hospital instead of travelling abroad for treatment.
He said, “Baba Afe Babalola (SAN) is on the path to immortality. Before now, I used to think that there were two paths to immortality. The first is by becoming an author. The second is spirituality. I have just found the third path, which is not just to establish a university but also establishing one that will be a change agent and impact on the society. I think Baba Afe is on the path to immortality.”
Aregbesola also praised Babalola for establishing what he described as a university infused with a vision and a mission to produce future leaders of the country and laudable innovations.
Stressing that the university had ushered in a paradigm shift in tertiary education, he said, “This school will always produce leaders who will be entrepreneurs and wealth creators. It will be impossible to leave this institution and be indolent because Baba Afe has made this place a fountain of functional education. The university just showed me that Nigeria has a future.
“I am happy that we now have a world-class medical Centre in our country for which Nigerians can come for their treatment instead of going abroad to assess similar facilities,” he added.
Responding, Babalola said the university was established to show how a tertiary institution should be run.
He said, “We are here to change the world. I can assure you that future leaders that will change the country for good are being produced here.”
